CREATING RELATIONSHIPS

As stated earlier, the most remarkable achievement of the MIRA project for the Virginia Cluster has been the creation of relationships within the New River Valley and bridging the isolation of communities.

Within each of the community team projects, there are partnership-building efforts with local organizations, businesses, interest groups and individuals. The Christiansburg team is collaborating with the Christiansburg Community Center to house its computer workstation. The Pulaski team is working with two subsidized residential apartment complexes to establish access to the Internet and computer training instruction. The Radford team will create a task force consisting of a cross section of the community including local government, businesses, local citizens, schools, etc., to develop and implement a comprehensive technology plan for the community.

The Virginia Cluster has demonstrated its desire to sustain community projects beyond the MIRA time frame. The relationships that they are establishing will create numerous opportunities for future community initiatives and collaborations.
