LEADERSHIP AND LITERACY
The Leadership and Literacy Team involved two teachers and four students with the goal to teach computer literacy and leadership skills to local youth.
They planned to use an available cable access channel to produce TV programs promoting
economic development. The team also planned to teach a summer reading program for grade school children.
The Leadership and Literacy Team accomplished both these tasks. Channel 57 Bruce Village went on the air in February 2000, and the summer reading program was also completed in 2000.
Cameras were bought with MIRA funds to videotape certain parts of the summer reading program. Students were given stipends to teach computer classes and work with other students on creating web pages.
Partnerships
The only collaboration was with the Bruce School District. This program did receive a federal grant for "after school programs." This was the only spin-off project from the original MIRA project.
